Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen: Film #80 of Film 365

Sunday 9th October 2011

Director: Michael Bay
Year: 2009
Stars: Shia LeBeouf, Megan Fox, John Turturro, Josh Duhamel, Tyrese Gibson

You might think that after my review of Transformers, I'd avoid the second movie. Apparently not. I have to admit I wasn't really expecting a lot from it, but it seemed like an easy choice on a Sunday evening.

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen definitely wasn't the disappointment the first Transformers was. A lot of this, I'm sure, has to do with my much lower expectations, but the other reason is that this movie simply doesn't take itself as seriously as the first one. It knows what it is and what people want it to be - a movie with cool cars that turn into robots, where lots of stuff gets blown up. It has that in abundance, so if it's what you're looking for you'll be perfectly happy.

The one criticism I can level at it is that it's just too long. However convoluted you make your story, and however many plot strands you bring in, you do not need three hours to blow stuff up. Two is more than enough.

Rating: 2.5 out of 5

About Me

My photo
I live in Bristol with my husband Dan (who I married in July 2007), my son Joe (born 2012) and daughter Jess (born 2015). I work at UWE (the University of the West of England) in Bristol as a Research and Open Access Librarian. I'm orginally from Exeter, so moving back to Bristol is a bit like coming home - especially as I studied for my undergraduate degree here (also at UWE). I love travelling and movies, although I get to do a lot less of both since the birth of our children. Although we have still managed to fit in holidays to the Isles of Scilly, Chamonix and a summer in California since Joe was born.
