Confessions of a Shopaholic: Film #111 of Film 365

Director: P.J. Hogan
Year: 2009
Stars: Isla Fisher, Hugh Dancy, Krysten Ritter, Joan Cusack, John Goodman, John Lithgow, Kristin Scott Thomas

Now this is more like it. If only The Accidental Husband had taken some of what Confessions of a Shopaholic is on. Still a romantic comedy, but the emphasis here is on comedy as much as romance. And even the shopaholic (thankfully, especially the shopaholic considering she is most definitely the main character) is properly likable. Totally kooky and an obsessive shopaholic, but still very likable - even when she does stupid things.

If you haven't guessed, Confessions of a Shopaholic is all about well, a shopaholic. Rebecca Bloomwood spends a large proportion of the film failing not to spend any money. Of course, this is Hollywood, where greed is bad (at least in the movies, if not when making them), so she suffers for it. And because this is Hollywood things work out OK in the end, but you knew that right? At least it's two hours of fun to get there.

About Me

My photo
I live in Bristol with my husband Dan (who I married in July 2007), my son Joe (born 2012) and daughter Jess (born 2015). I work at UWE (the University of the West of England) in Bristol as a Research and Open Access Librarian. I'm orginally from Exeter, so moving back to Bristol is a bit like coming home - especially as I studied for my undergraduate degree here (also at UWE). I love travelling and movies, although I get to do a lot less of both since the birth of our children. Although we have still managed to fit in holidays to the Isles of Scilly, Chamonix and a summer in California since Joe was born.
