Run Fatboy Run

Director: David Schwimmer
Year: 2007
Stars: Simon Pegg, Thandie Newton, Hank Azaria, Dylan Moran, Matthew Fenton

I'd recorded this a few weeks ago, and whilst I knew it hadn't gotten great reviews when it had been released at the cinema, I wanted something to watch whilst I relaxed on a Bank Holiday Monday evening.

The film follows Dennis Doyle, a man who ran away from his fiancée (Libby) on their wedding day, when she was pregnant with their child. You can understand why that might have made her mad. The film follows Dennis a few years later, when he decides to run a marathon to compete with Libby's new boyfriend, and to prove himself.

There aren't really any surprises here, and whilst I knew what the ending was likely to be and it annoyed me at first (it felt like it was going to be a cop-out), the good humoured nature of the film and its refusal to take itself seriously had me, by the end, laughing along with it. Not a complex film, and certainly not one to challenge any conventions, but a fun distraction none the less.

Rating: 3 out of 5

About Me

My photo
I live in Bristol with my husband Dan (who I married in July 2007), my son Joe (born 2012) and daughter Jess (born 2015). I work at UWE (the University of the West of England) in Bristol as a Research and Open Access Librarian. I'm orginally from Exeter, so moving back to Bristol is a bit like coming home - especially as I studied for my undergraduate degree here (also at UWE). I love travelling and movies, although I get to do a lot less of both since the birth of our children. Although we have still managed to fit in holidays to the Isles of Scilly, Chamonix and a summer in California since Joe was born.
