The Lake House

Director: Alejandro Agresti
Year: 2006
Stars: Sandra Bullock, Keanu Reeves

It's entirely possible that by now I had watched one too many romance movies, as I came to this a little uninspired. But I was still ill and still didn't want to watch those gory horror movies, so thought this had to be better than staring at a black screen.

Well, it was a step up from a black screen. The premise itself is an interesting one - a woman moves out of a house two years after a man moves in, but he gets the letter she intends for the new owner. So the two continue to correspond, but are two years apart. Apart from this, however, the film is pretty much your standard love story. Couple meet (even if only by post), couple go through lots of hurdles to be together ... you can guess the rest.

It's not a bad movie by any means. There just isn't really anything special to recommend it. If you like romances, and don't mind another, this will probably keep you entertained for an hour or two.

Rating: 3 out of 5

About Me

My photo
I live in Bristol with my husband Dan (who I married in July 2007), my son Joe (born 2012) and daughter Jess (born 2015). I work at UWE (the University of the West of England) in Bristol as a Research and Open Access Librarian. I'm orginally from Exeter, so moving back to Bristol is a bit like coming home - especially as I studied for my undergraduate degree here (also at UWE). I love travelling and movies, although I get to do a lot less of both since the birth of our children. Although we have still managed to fit in holidays to the Isles of Scilly, Chamonix and a summer in California since Joe was born.
