Final Destination 3

Director: James Wong
Year: 2006
Stars: Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Ryan Merriman, Kris Lemche, Amanda Crew

Another film that didn't fare too well with the critics, I found myself quite enjoying this when it came on TV. Having seen the original Final Destination at the cinema and loved it, then having watched Final Destination 2 on DVD and thinking it was silly, but fun, I was prepared to give Final Destination 3 a go - but wasn't really expecting very much from it.

However, apart from a relatively slow beginning, the film had all the elements that made the first film enjoyable. Including some very inventive, enjoyable (but almost impossible)-to-guess deaths! Admittedly, the formula is starting to look a bit old and tired now, so I don't think there's much more mileage in this franchise, but if you haven't seen 1 or 2, here is as good a place as any to start. There's no mention to past films that isn't explained either, so you don't have to have watched those.

All in all, perfectly acceptable Saturday night fare if you're not bothered by obvious repeats or having to think particularly hard!

Rating: 3.5 out of 5

About Me

My photo
I live in Bristol with my husband Dan (who I married in July 2007), my son Joe (born 2012) and daughter Jess (born 2015). I work at UWE (the University of the West of England) in Bristol as a Research and Open Access Librarian. I'm orginally from Exeter, so moving back to Bristol is a bit like coming home - especially as I studied for my undergraduate degree here (also at UWE). I love travelling and movies, although I get to do a lot less of both since the birth of our children. Although we have still managed to fit in holidays to the Isles of Scilly, Chamonix and a summer in California since Joe was born.
