I'm still going... I will give this idea one thing - it seems that I'm certainly going to watch a good variety of movies in the coming months. I've just been watching movies from the bottom of our recorded list for the time being, and in three days I've seen a contemporary drama, a 1950s melodrama and a superhero movie. I'm enjoying the variety if nothing else!
It probably won't surprise you to learn that "4: Rise of the Silver Surfer" is your standard superhero action movie. If you've seen any superhero movie before, you know what you're about to get here.
This is the second of the Fantastic Four films, and this time around the Fantastic Four have to deal with a (you guessed it) silver surfer who appears to be slowly destroying Earth. The movie plays it totally straight, and has none of the edge of, for example, the new Batman movies. Not to say this is a bad movie - there is, at least, a plot, and some of the graphics are very cool indeed.
Although I have discovered why I always fall asleep in the last 20 mins of action movies - it's because the explanations for what has gone before are rubbish. This time around I didn't fall asleep, and the explanation for the silver surfer's actions was hazy to say the least. I really don't think this is uncommon, so the next time I fall asleep at the end of an action movie, I'll accept that I've missed nothing. It might be a bit more of a problem if I'm watching a thriller or film noir.

Fantastic Four

I wasn't expecting much from this - I had heard of it, and was curious, but was expecting a pretty bog standard superhero movie. It was fairly average, but on the higher end - certainly entertaining enough for a couple of hours.
There's not really a lot of plot - some people attempt a space mission, fail, get special powers, then spend the rest of the film dealing with them. Even the baddie doesn't really kick into action until the last 30 minutes - and there's no way you couldn't have known it was coming.
What keeps you entertained is the banter between the heroes, and the way they deal with their powers. Without their powers the film would be dull (the character building just doesn't work until they have their powers), but with them there is enough for the script to play with to keep you entertained. No Batman: The Dark Knight or Spiderman rival, but better than many.

My Super Ex-Girlfriend

If you've read the reviews, then you know exactly what to expect from this film. It really is as bad as the critics indicate. If you're lucky, it'll raise a titter or two. At best.
The premise could have worked - if there had been a decent script, a decent director or just a shred of knowledge about what does and doesn't work in a movie. Luke Wilson's character (the movie is so bad characters' names escape me) starts dating Uma Thurman, only to discover that she is, in fact, G-girl, a superhero. This doesn't really cause too many issues (with the exclusion of a broken bed) until Wilson decides he doesn't love G-girl and tries to dump her for Hannah, the girl he does love.
There you go, I can remember some of the names! Just to be clear though, Wilson isn't the worst thing in this. It's all rubbish.
