First Snow

Wednesday 17th September 2014

Director: Mark Fergus
Year: 2006
Stars: Guy Pearce, Piper Perabo, William Fichtner

Before seeing that this was on TV, I had heard nothing about it - or perhaps I had, I just don't remember because the movie is nearly ten years old now. Either way, I definitely haven't seen it before, and it sounded intriguing enough - a movie about a man (Pearce) who learns that he's going to die when the next snowfall hits, and tries to do everything in his power to stop it happening.

The idea isn't a bad one, but somehow the implementation is a little lacking. There seem to be two movies in here struggling to get out - one about a normal man who is just trying to avoid death, and another about a man with something of a shady past. As it is, neither story is told in enough detail to make it feel real, resulting in you feeling as if you're watching two halves of two different movies.

Some great ideas, but something of a messy result.

About Me

My photo
I live in Bristol with my husband Dan (who I married in July 2007), my son Joe (born 2012) and daughter Jess (born 2015). I work at UWE (the University of the West of England) in Bristol as a Research and Open Access Librarian. I'm orginally from Exeter, so moving back to Bristol is a bit like coming home - especially as I studied for my undergraduate degree here (also at UWE). I love travelling and movies, although I get to do a lot less of both since the birth of our children. Although we have still managed to fit in holidays to the Isles of Scilly, Chamonix and a summer in California since Joe was born.
