Marley and Me: Film #52 of Film 365

Sunday 10th July 2011

Director: David Frankel
Year: 2008
Stars: Owen Wilson, Jennifer Aniston

I decided to watch this as an easy Sunday evening movie, with the expectation that I knew exactly what I was getting, and would be relatively happy with it. It's about a dog, right? And a couple who fail to bond when they buy a dog (with the dog and each other), then eventually figure it out and end up happily ever after?

Well, not quite. The dog (Marley) is indeed the focus of attention - but the story follows the Grogans (Wilson and Aniston) as they go through life with Marley by their side.

Marley and Me is very much a dog lovers movie, but as long as you don't totally hate dogs there'll probably be something in here you can identify with. To be honest, nothing beyond 'normal' life really happens in this movie - but that doesn't make it bad. Overall, Marley and Me was better than expected.

Rating: 3.5 out of 5

About Me

My photo
I live in Bristol with my husband Dan (who I married in July 2007), my son Joe (born 2012) and daughter Jess (born 2015). I work at UWE (the University of the West of England) in Bristol as a Research and Open Access Librarian. I'm orginally from Exeter, so moving back to Bristol is a bit like coming home - especially as I studied for my undergraduate degree here (also at UWE). I love travelling and movies, although I get to do a lot less of both since the birth of our children. Although we have still managed to fit in holidays to the Isles of Scilly, Chamonix and a summer in California since Joe was born.
