Superbad

Director: Greg Mottola
Year: 2007
Stars: Jonah Hill, Michael Cera, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Bill Hader, Seth Rogen

I guess I shouldn't be surprised that I didn't love this film. Along with other movies by the Judd Apatow (who produced this) et al. team, it has been raved about by critics. And, along with other movies by the Judd Apatow et al. team (think The 40-Year Old Virgin, Knocked Up...), I didn't find it that funny.

The film follows Seth (Hill), Evan (Cera) and Fogell (Mintz-Plasse), three unpopular high school teenagers who get invited to the cool kids party, and promise to bring along some booze (with the help of Fogell's questionable Hawaiian ID).

I'm not sure why so many critics touted this as a brand-new type of comedy. For the most part, American Pie did this, and, in my opinion, far better, about 10 years ago. That's not to say there aren't some laugh-out-loud moments here - there are. Thankfully it's not quite at The 40-Year Old Virgin level. But it's just not that funny, and I've seen it done better in the past.

About Me

My photo
I live in Bristol with my husband Dan (who I married in July 2007), my son Joe (born 2012) and daughter Jess (born 2015). I work at UWE (the University of the West of England) in Bristol as a Research and Open Access Librarian. I'm orginally from Exeter, so moving back to Bristol is a bit like coming home - especially as I studied for my undergraduate degree here (also at UWE). I love travelling and movies, although I get to do a lot less of both since the birth of our children. Although we have still managed to fit in holidays to the Isles of Scilly, Chamonix and a summer in California since Joe was born.
