Scott Pilgrim vs. the World

Director: Edgar Wright
Year: 2010
Stars: Michael Cera, Mary Elizabeth Wanstead, Kieran Culkin, Ellen Wong

I saw this three days ago now, and I'm still not sure what I think of it. It's definitely unique, and very original.

Michael Cera is Scott Pilgrim, a 22-year old in a rock band who is currently going out with a 16-year old. But then he meets Ramona Flowers, and in order to be able to go out with her he has to defeat her seven evil exes.

Based on a comic book, the film does have a very comic-book feel to it. Although clearly set in the real world, a lot of things that happen don't make any sense at all in a truly "real" world (although they do in the context of the movie). If you're waiting for an explanation, you won't get one. But if you go in with an open mind, you may well love this. I think I do... probably.

About Me

My photo
I live in Bristol with my husband Dan (who I married in July 2007), my son Joe (born 2012) and daughter Jess (born 2015). I work at UWE (the University of the West of England) in Bristol as a Research and Open Access Librarian. I'm orginally from Exeter, so moving back to Bristol is a bit like coming home - especially as I studied for my undergraduate degree here (also at UWE). I love travelling and movies, although I get to do a lot less of both since the birth of our children. Although we have still managed to fit in holidays to the Isles of Scilly, Chamonix and a summer in California since Joe was born.
