The Man Who Sued God

Director: Mark Joffe
Year: 2001
Stars: Billy Connolly, Judy Davis

I wasn't expecting a lot from this - it was just a film I had heard about that happened to be on on a random evening when I wasn't doing very much.

Turns out, it wasn't a bad way to spend a couple of hours. The film is set in Australia, but focuses on a Scottish man (Connolly) who, when told that the lightning that hit his boat is an act of God, (and therefore the insurance company won't pay out), decides to sue God. And that really is the basis of the plot. But it's told warmly, and for the most part is quite endearing. Some of the jokes are silly, but not so silly that you can't (normally) laugh at them.

A pleasant diversion, if you will.

But what is the score? We need to know these things! Otherwise what was the point of watching them?

Oh... wait...

About Me

My photo
I live in Bristol with my husband Dan (who I married in July 2007), my son Joe (born 2012) and daughter Jess (born 2015). I work at UWE (the University of the West of England) in Bristol as a Research and Open Access Librarian. I'm orginally from Exeter, so moving back to Bristol is a bit like coming home - especially as I studied for my undergraduate degree here (also at UWE). I love travelling and movies, although I get to do a lot less of both since the birth of our children. Although we have still managed to fit in holidays to the Isles of Scilly, Chamonix and a summer in California since Joe was born.
